The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE)  is one of the most prestigious scholarship examinations in India. It is open to students of Class X studying under the different School Boards in India.

NTSE is conducted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT)  to support students who want to pursue higher education in Science and Social Studies streams. It comes with a monthly scholarship and continues to the PhD level.

Close to 3 lakh students appear in this scholarship exam every year, and 1,000 meritorious students are selected for the NTSE Scholarship. So, to be in this elite camp of NTSE scholars is an added feather to your cap. Besides, several undergraduate courses give bonus marks to NTSE scholars and a number of foreign universities that offer undergraduate courses give preference to NTSE scholars.

So, it goes without saying that having the tag of an NTSE scholar is definitely a milestone in your academic pursuits.

NTSE tests awareness of the subjects that are covered in Class 9 and 10.

All subjects (except languages)  - Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Social Studies PLUS Mental Ability -  come under the scrutiny of NTSE.

NTSE at the state level will give importance to the syllabi of the state as well as NCERT. At the national level, it is only the NCERT syllabus that is taken into account.

The first level NTSE is usually conducted in the month of November and the second level, in May of the next year.
